Downriver Race for the Autumn Trophy, 2024
A race that always seemed doomed to failure, with a
forecast of 1-3mph, gusting 8 if you were lucky. Despite chopping off the
first part of the course and removing the leg below Thurne Mouth, only Stellar
managed to finish, with first time helm Chris Davies steering her to a painfully
slow victory. The tide, having carried the fleet down the Bure, was
supposed to turn at Thurne Mouth around 3.30, but at 5pm it was still ebbing,
stranding the last stalwarts standing just a tantalising reach and a bit below
the finish line - in reality, probably still at least half an hour away, with
sunset looming. At least it was warm and just about dry. Many thanks
to all who supported this event by coming and giving it a go.
