  Buckenham 50th Anniversary Regatta

Two boats, Privateer and White Rose, competed in the Saturday afternoon race. The sail to the downriver mark was very close and winds which were variable in strength and direction made for an interesting race. Tim Child on Privateer just pipped Bob Soutar’s White Rose to take first place and the Buckenham Centenary Cup.

Sunday morning saw four cruisers racing. There was confusion as to the course, therefore at the start two boats went upriver and two set off downriver! After a quick on the water conference, a single route was agreed. The race split into two mini races, with Privateer and Melody vying against each other, leaving Golden Moon and White Rose to have their own personal tussle.

The wind dropped out as the slower boats approached the upper mark and White Rose retired to give his novice crew a chance to helm. The eventual winner of the Beauchamp Arms trophy was Mark Wells on Melody, with Privateer second and Duncan Ellis on Golden Moon taking third place.
