Breydon Regatta is always special but this year even more so as it's the celebration of 150 years since the original Club's inauguration.

There was a very good turnout of 16 boats on Saturday for the Passage Race to Reedham which was sailed in cooler and cloudier weather than of late but with a good wind. There was a twist in the tail this year, with Lisa deciding to finish the race on the Waveney, outside Goodchild’s.

Evergreen, setting off earlier than most, won by a couple of minutes from Mystery and Shark. The only downside was that the Club safety boat decided to make up its own mind where it steered and had to be towed back!

Sunday started with slight trepidation by the joint OODs, Lisa and Jimmy, due to lack of wind. However, the start on Breydon, moved well down towards Great Yarmouth to take advantage of the tide, was soon extended a bit when a light breeze came up to include a turn around an upstream buoy, which made for good sailing for the 15 entries, in two short back-to-back races. The slower boats were set off first, keeping the line busy, as most finished in quick succession, making a fine sight.

Ladybird won the first race by nine seconds from Skylark, with Mystery in third place by a further three seconds. In the second one, Evergreen took the honours, with Alchemy in second and Skylark taking third place by just one second from Shark.

At the results' presentation, the Commodore ably thanked everyone involved, especially Goodchild Marine and the race team. Trophies were presented, with the overall winner for the weekend being Evergreen, a boat sailed by "three skippers and no crew" (their words) with an accumulated age of 225 years, so we're told!
