  Cecil Howard Memorial Race, 2024 New Page 1

With warm sunshine, a flood tide and a good reaching wind, it was the perfect day for a sail upriver from Cantley to Coldham Hall.  With the first start around low slack water, there was a slight advantage to the slower boats, starting twenty minutes after the faster yachts, as the tide strengthened throughout the race.  Although the earlier boats all took around 45 minutes to sail the course, only Farthing came anywhere near the prizes, finishing in third, but taking the second place trophy, as Golden Moon who finished in that position is on a provisional handicap.  Also in the last start, Pan had an excellent race, enjoying the reaching conditions, to take the infamous jugs.  Further down the field, Sabrina 2 took the trophy for third place home and Tamara won the high handicap division.  The less said about Vixen deciding to race with half a reedbed around her rudder, the better...
